Matsusaka, Historical castle town in Mie Prefecture, Japan

Located between mountains and the sea, Matsusaka spans across 623 square kilometers with a population density of 250 people per square kilometer.

The city emerged as a commercial center when Oda Nobukatsu constructed a castle in 1580, followed by Gamo Ujisato naming the site Matsusaka in 1588.

The Matsusaka Cotton Center demonstrates the traditional textile manufacturing process that brought prosperity to the region through production of Matsusaka Momen fabric.

The Matsusaka City Tourist Information Center at Kyomachi provides visitors with guidance, maps, and resources through phone, fax, and email communication channels.

The Former Ozu Residence, constructed in 1700, now functions as the Matsusaka Merchant Museum, displaying the living conditions of successful traders from past centuries.
