Chikuzen-Maebaru Station, railway station Itoshima, Fukuoka prefecture, Japan
Chikuzen-Maebaru Station is a ground-level railway station in Itoshima, operated by JR Kyushu on the Chikuhi Line. It has passing tracks that allow trains traveling in opposite directions to meet, which is a practical necessity on a single-track section of the line.
The station was first opened by the private Chikuzen Railway in the late 19th century, making it one of the early rail connections between Fukuoka and the Itoshima peninsula. The line was later absorbed into the national rail network and eventually passed to JR Kyushu.
The station sits in Maebaru, the urban center of Itoshima, and is a daily meeting point for commuters and students heading to nearby schools. The streets around it are lined with small shops and local restaurants that give a sense of ordinary life in this part of Fukuoka Prefecture.
Because the station is at ground level, getting on and off the train is straightforward with no stairs to manage. Local buses depart from near the station, making it a useful starting point for exploring parts of Itoshima that are away from the rail line.
The station name carries the prefix "Chikuzen," which refers to the old province that once covered much of northern Kyushu, used here to distinguish it from other stations with a similar base name. This naming practice is common across Japan when two or more stations on different lines share the same local name.
