Saitama-Shintoshin Station, Railway interchange station in Saitama New Urban Center, Japan
Saitama-Shintoshin Station is a railway interchange in Kishikichō, Saitama New Urban Center, where two elevated island platforms serve four tracks connecting several railway lines through a modern steel and glass building. Platform edge doors line the waiting areas, controlling access to arriving trains.
The station opened on April 1st, 2000, on land that once served as Japan National Railway switchyards, becoming a central transit point. Platform edge doors were added in 2017 to improve passenger safety.
The station connects visitors to Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa-jinja Shrine and Saitama Museum of Modern Art, which houses works from international artists.
Express bus services run regularly from the station to Narita Airport, offering a direct option for travelers with luggage. The station handles a high daily flow of passengers and can become crowded during rush hours.
The design by Edward Suzuki and JR East Design earned a Good Design Award for the architectural layout. The large glass facade allows daylight to reach down to the platforms.
