Shakubetsu Station, Signal point on Nemuro Main Line in Kushiro, Japan
Shakubetsu is a signal point on the Nemuro Main Line in Kushiro with two island platforms and one side platform across five tracks. This track configuration allows trains to pass and maneuver on the regional line.
This station opened in January 1920 and served passengers for nearly a century on this route. In March 2019 passenger service ended and it now functions solely as a signal point for train operations.
The station represents the evolution of railway infrastructure in Hokkaido, reflecting changes in regional transportation needs over time.
This location is not accessible to passengers since no regular service stops here anymore. It remains operational under Hokkaido Railway Company management for train signaling purposes only.
The site kept its position marker K44 on the Nemuro Line even after its role completely changed. This continuity in numbering shows how Japanese railways document their infrastructure even through major transitions.
