JR Namba Station, Underground railway station in Naniwa-ku, Japan
JR Namba sits underground in Naniwa-ku and features two island platforms with a total of four tracks serving the Yamatoji Line. The facility offers direct access to Osaka City Air Terminal and links several railway companies under one roof.
Operations began in 1889 as Minatomachi and the current name arrived in 1994 with the opening of Kansai International Airport. The renaming marked the shift to a modern transport hub in central Osaka.
This terminal connects travelers directly to the entertainment quarter, where local theater traditions and regional cuisine shape the cityscape. The location makes it a starting point for exploring the historic entertainment core of the city.
The underground location keeps transfer walks short to Nankai, Kintetsu, and Hanshin lines within the same complex. Travelers to or from the airport find direct links to the City Air Terminal inside the station.
Construction work for the new Naniwasuji Line is already underway and should finish by 2031, creating additional links between the center and surrounding districts. The expansion will reshape the underground complex and open new passages for travelers.
