Kakegawa

The city extends across 265 square kilometers of coastal plains in southwest Shizuoka Prefecture, bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the south.

During the Edo period, Kakegawa developed as a castle town after the construction of Kakegawa Castle in the late 15th century by Asahina Yasuhiro.

The Kakegawa Bird Park contains numerous species of birds and stands as the primary avian sanctuary in Japan, offering educational programs and demonstrations.

The Tokaido Shinkansen connects Kakegawa to Tokyo in under two hours, with the station located centrally for access to local attractions and tea fields.

Kakegawa Castle features one of the few surviving original palace buildings from the Edo Period, reconstructed in 1994 using traditional carpentry methods.
