Lake Towada, Volcanic crater lake in Aomori Prefecture, Japan.
Lake Towada spans 61 square kilometers at 400 meters elevation, featuring deep blue waters and two peninsulas extending from its southern shore.
The caldera lake formed through volcanic activity 200,000 years ago, with the last recorded eruption occurring in 915 AD affecting regional agriculture.
The Towada Art Center near the lake exhibits contemporary works by international artists, including installations by Ron Mueck and Yayoi Kusama.
Visitors can access Lake Towada via Shichinohe-Towada Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen line, followed by a connecting bus service.
The lake contains seventy feeding rivers and requires 8.5 years for complete water renewal according to the National Institute for Environmental Studies.
