Hakkōda Ropeway, Aerial tramway in Aomori, Japan
The Hakkōda Ropeway is an aerial tramway in the mountains of Aomori in northern Japan. It connects the base station to the summit, allowing visitors to reach high elevation quickly.
The ropeway was built in the late 1960s to provide mountain access for visitors and residents. Since then it has remained a key route to reach the summit.
The ropeway facilitates winter sports from November to May, while local residents gather during autumn to observe the transformation of maple leaves.
The ride is straightforward and requires only boarding a cabin at the base station. The round trip takes about 20 minutes total, leaving time to spend at the summit.
The cable car system accommodates 101 passengers per cabin and operates at a speed of 5 meters per second on a 25-degree gradient.
