青森県営スケート場, Indoor ice rink and sports complex in Aomori, Japan
The Aomori Prefectural Skating Rink (青森県営スケート場) is a multipurpose indoor arena in Aomori City, in northern Japan, built around a large ice surface used for skating and winter sports competitions. The hall has seating areas that can be rearranged depending on the type of event, allowing it to function both as a sports venue and a concert hall.
The rink opened in 1985 and was built to serve as a winter sports training and competition center for the Aomori region. In 2007, it hosted the World Curling Championships, which brought the facility wider attention beyond the local sports scene.
The venue is known in Aomori as a place where large concerts by Japanese artists take place on the same floor that was recently covered in ice. Visitors attending a show can notice the industrial scale of the space, which was designed for winter sports but regularly fills with music audiences.
Opening hours and access depend on whether a sporting session, a competition, or a concert is scheduled, so checking the current program before visiting saves time. The venue is open to the public for skating sessions during winter, but on event days the hall may be fully reserved for the show.
When the ice is removed in warmer months, the floor is used for inline skating, keeping the space active outside the winter season. This makes the venue one of the few spots in the region where both ice and inline skating can be practiced in the same building at different times of year.
