Koza District, Administrative district in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan
Koza District is an administrative area in central Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Today it contains only the municipality of Samukawa within its boundaries.
The district was established in 1878 following Japan's administrative reforms of the Meiji period. Over time it gradually lost municipalities through mergers and city incorporations.
The district preserves traditional Japanese administrative structures, maintaining local governance patterns that date back to the Meiji period reforms.
The district sits centrally in the Kanagawa region and connects several larger cities. Its location provides good access to neighboring communities like Chigasaki, Fujisawa, and Yamato.
Once the area comprised 22 villages and one town, but these communities gradually disappeared through city incorporations and mergers. Today only Samukawa remains, a reflection of how Japan's administrative map has been reshaped.
