神川橋, Road bridge in Hiratsuka, Japan.
Kamikawa Bridge is a road bridge that crosses the Sagami River, linking Hiratsuka City and Samukawa Town in Kanagawa Prefecture. It carries traffic on two prefectural roads that connect the communities on either side.
The first bridge opened in 1953 to connect the two areas, but was rebuilt in 1992 with a more modern design to handle the growing traffic volume. This newer construction used prestressed concrete technology to improve durability and capacity.
The bridge lights at night create a visual reference to traditional Japanese oars used in rowing, a design choice that honors the area's connection to water and local boating traditions.
The bridge is easy to access for through traffic and connects directly to other roads on both sides. Visitors can approach from either bank of the river and view the structure from different vantage points.
The structure combines two different prestressed concrete sections with varying span configurations, a practical solution for crossing the river. This hybrid design reflects how the engineers adapted the construction to fit the specific flow and width of the waterway.
