Teine-ku, Administrative ward in Sapporo, Japan

Teine-ku extends across 56.92 square kilometers of northwestern Sapporo, featuring residential zones, commercial sectors, and mountain ranges with Mount Teine reaching 1,023 meters.

The district's name originates from the Ainu language word 'teyne-i' meaning marsh, and became an official ward of Sapporo in 1989 after splitting from Nishi-ku.

The district maintains its connection to Japanese traditions through neighborhood festivals while integrating modern urban development with educational institutions and community spaces.

The Hakodate Main Line serves the ward with multiple stations including Hoshimi, Hoshioki, Inaho, Teine, and Inazumi-Kōen, connecting residents to central Sapporo.

Mount Teine in the ward marked a milestone in sports history as the venue for alpine skiing events during the 1972 Winter Olympics, the first Winter Games in Asia.
