Awaza Station, metro station in Osaka, Osaka prefecture, Japan
Awaza Station is an underground metro station and interchange point in Nishi-ku, Osaka, Japan. The Yotsubashi Line and the Chuo Line cross here on two separate levels, connected by underground passages.
The station first opened in 1942 as part of the Chuo Line, and was later connected to the Yotsubashi Line when that line was completed in 1990. That second connection turned it into a transfer point serving the western part of the city.
The name Awaza refers to an old neighborhood that was once known for its entertainment districts. Today the area around the station feels like a calm residential zone, far removed from that earlier character.
Signs inside the station are clear and guide travelers reliably between the two lines. Elevators and stairs connect the levels, so the station is easy to navigate even with luggage or limited mobility.
Although the two lines meet at this station, their platforms run in different directions, which makes the connection slightly less direct than at a typical cross-shaped interchange. Knowing this in advance helps avoid taking an extra set of stairs in the wrong direction.
