Nagaoka Station, Railway interchange station in Nagaoka, Japan.
Nagaoka Station is a railway interchange in Nagaoka, Japan, featuring two island platforms at ground level for local services and two elevated platforms dedicated to Joetsu Shinkansen trains. The facility connects high-speed rail with regional lines and includes shopping areas and services across multiple floors.
The facility opened on June 16, 1898, as part of the private Hokuetsu Railway Company and later became part of the Japanese National Railways network. Following privatization in 1987, East Japan Railway Company took over operations.
The CoCoLo shopping center inside offers local specialties and houses the Ponshukan Sake Museum, which displays over a hundred varieties of rice wine from Niigata Prefecture. The setup allows travelers to sample different regional brews and learn about the area's production traditions.
The facility sits approximately 270 kilometers (168 miles) from Tokyo and serves around 11,700 passengers daily through Joetsu Shinkansen and Shinetsu main line connections. Visitors can use escalators and elevators to move between levels.
The building houses a dental clinic, pharmacy, and quick glasses shop that provide practical services to travelers during their wait. This combination makes the facility more than just a transport hub.
