Kawazu, Coastal town in Kamo district, Japan
Kawazu extends along the east coast of Izu Peninsula, bordered by the Amagi Mountains and facing Sagami Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
The establishment of Kawazu town occurred in September 1958 through the consolidation of Kamikazu and Shimokawazu villages, previously part of direct Tokugawa control.
The Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival runs through February, displaying the earliest blooming cherry trees in eastern Japan with over one million annual visitors.
The town provides access through Kawazu Station on the Izukyu Railway Line, connecting to Tokyo via the Odoriko Limited Express or transfers at Atami Station.
The Kawazu cherry trees, discovered in the 1950s, feature large pink petals and maintain their blossoms for an entire month along the four-kilometer riverside path.
