Fujimi

Fujimi is a mountain town in Nagano Prefecture that spreads across a wide area of rolling terrain, sitting at an elevation of about 977 meters. The landscape is characterized by forested slopes, farming areas, and settlements scattered throughout the hilly topography.

The town formed in 1955 when four rural communities merged together to create a single administrative unit. This consolidation created the foundation for how the area is organized today.

The town has deep roots in farming, and you can see this reflected in the patchwork of orchards and vegetable fields that surround the area. Local celebrations throughout the year showcase the harvest and connect people to the land they work.

The best way to get around is by train, which has several stations in the area and connects the scattered parts of the town. Since the terrain is hilly, it's good to plan your route carefully and build in extra time if you're exploring on foot.

Within the area sits the Idojiri archaeological site where artifacts from the Jomon period were unearthed and are now displayed in a local museum. These ancient remains show that people lived in this mountain region thousands of years ago.
