Kamikawa

Kamikawa extends across 1,049 square kilometers of land near the Daisetsuzan National Park, with the Ishikari River flowing through its territory.

The settlement established in 1894 transformed from a coal mining center into an agricultural town after introducing Black Angus cattle from Alberta in the 1980s.

The town maintains strong connections with Rocky Mountain House in Alberta through student exchanges and the Rocky-Kamikawa Friendship Society since 1984.

Visitors can reach Kamikawa by bus services from surrounding areas, with the journey to Sōunkyō Onsen taking approximately 30 minutes by car.

The local mascot Kamikki, designed as a brown bear, represents the connection between the town, hot springs, and natural environment.
