Asahi-dake, Active volcano in Higashikawa, Japan

Mount Asahi rises to 2,291 meters as the highest peak in Hokkaido, featuring steam vents, volcanic rocks, and a network of mountain trails.

The mountain experienced multiple documented volcanic eruptions between 3200 BC and 1739, with sulphur mining operations taking place in its fumarolic regions.

The indigenous Ainu people named this mountain Kamui-mintara, considering it a sacred place where their deities gathered for recreational activities.

The Asahidake Ropeway transports visitors from Sanroku Station at 1,100 meters to Sugatami Station at 1,600 meters in just 10 minutes.

Sugatami Pond reflects the mountain's peak while steam rises from active volcanic vents, creating natural phenomena throughout all seasons.
