Mount Niseikaushuppe, Mountain summit in Kamikawa, Japan
Mount Niseikaushuppe is a summit in the Ishikari Mountains reaching 1,883 meters in elevation. Its two peaks, called Oo-yari and Ko-yari, create a recognizable shape when viewed from certain angles.
The original access route came from Kiyokawa district near the Ishikari River through a forest path. This historic way up has since been abandoned.
The name comes from the Ainu language and refers to its position above Sounkyo gorge. Visitors walking up can experience how the mountain sits prominently above this natural formation.
The trailhead is located at Furukawa Forest Road at 1,100 meters elevation with parking for about 15 vehicles. Access requires a passcode from the forestry service.
In summer, the slopes display meadows with Aleutian mountainheath and Kamchatka globeflower surrounded by Erman's birch trees. This alpine plant life creates color during the warmer months.
