Oshino, Rural village in Minamitsuru district, Japan

The Oshino Hakkai consists of eight deep ponds filled with filtered water from Mount Fuji snow through layers of volcanic rock at 35 degrees north.

The village of Oshino emerged in 1889 during the Meiji period within Minamitsuru District, following a period when the area belonged to Kai Province under Tokugawa control.

The Hannoki Bayashi Shiryokan museum displays traditional farming equipment and samurai artifacts inside a thatched-roof farmhouse near the largest spring pond.

Visitors can reach Oshino by taking a bus from Kawaguchiko Station to Gotemba, with hourly services stopping at Oshino Hakkai throughout the operating day.

The spring water in Waku Pond undergoes an 80-year natural filtration process through volcanic rock, earning recognition from Japan's Ministry of Environment in 1985.
