Mount Fuji Radar System, Weather radar station on Mount Fuji summit, Japan
The Mount Fuji Radar System was a weather radar station located at the summit of Mount Fuji in Japan. The installation provided real-time monitoring of atmospheric conditions across a wide region.
The radar station began operations in 1964 and was designed to detect typhoons and severe weather events approaching Japan. It remained active for about 35 years before being decommissioned in 1999.
The Mount Fuji Radar Dome Museum in Fujiyoshida exhibits the original equipment and documents the technological advancement of Japanese meteorological systems.
The station sits at the summit of Mount Fuji and is not open to general public access. A nearby museum in Fujiyoshida displays the original equipment and tells the story of this weather monitoring system.
Constructing this installation required transporting massive quantities of materials to the mountain's peak during short summer weather windows. This engineering feat was one of the most challenging mountain-top construction projects of its era.
