Minamiaizu district, Mountain district in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.
Minamiaizu district spans across 2,341 square kilometers of mountainous terrain in western Fukushima Prefecture, containing four main municipalities: Shimogo, Tadami, Hinoemata, and Minamiaizu.
The district was established on January 27, 1879, during Japan's modernization period, and underwent significant changes when Tajima, Tateiwa, Ina, and Nango merged into Minamiaizu town in 2006.
Each municipality within the district maintains traditional festivals that reflect the seasonal changes and agricultural practices of the Aizu region throughout the year.
Regional trains and bus networks connect the district's towns, with multiple national routes providing access to neighboring prefectures and major urban centers.
The district records a population density of only 14 people per square kilometer, making it the most sparsely populated region in the entire Aizu territory.
