Kōrakuen Station, Metro station in Bunkyo, Japan
Kōrakuen Station is a metro station in Tokyo's Bunkyo ward, served by two lines: the Marunouchi Line and the Namboku Line. It has multiple exits spread across the area and is fully accessible for wheelchair users.
The station opened in 1954 and at first served only the Marunouchi Line. The Namboku Line was added later, connecting the station to other parts of the city.
The station takes its name from the Korakuen Garden nearby, one of the most celebrated Edo-period gardens in Tokyo. From the exits, visitors can walk directly into the Tokyo Dome area, where sports venues, concert halls and leisure spots gather in one place.
Signage inside is clear and mostly available in English, making it easy to find the right exit or transfer between lines. The station gets busy during morning and evening rush hours, so traveling outside those times makes the experience more comfortable.
The station is both an elevated and an underground station depending on which line you use, giving it a layout that is rare in the Tokyo Metro network. Passengers switching between the two lines travel between very different levels of the station.
