Nachi Falls

Nachi Falls drops 133 meters through the forest, making it the tallest single-drop waterfall in Japan with a width of 13 meters.

Archaeological excavations at the waterfall base in 1918 revealed numerous artifacts including statues and mirrors, now displayed in the nearby Ryuhoden.

Every morning, a Shinto priest performs ceremonies at the waterfall, which houses the deity Hiryū Gongen worshipped at Kumano Nachi Taisha shrine.

Visitors can reach the falls by taking a 30-minute bus from JR Kii-Katsuura station to Nachi-no-Taki-mae stop, followed by a 5-minute walk.

Two sacred rocks stand at the waterfall summit, marking the location of guardian spirits associated with the connected Shinto shrine.
