Gifu Castle

The fortification sits at the summit of Mount Kinka, providing a complete view over the Nagara River and the surrounding plains of Gifu Prefecture.

The castle gained military importance in 1567 when Oda Nobunaga captured it from the Saito clan and established his headquarters until moving to Azuchi Castle.

The three-floor museum within the castle displays an extensive collection of Japanese armor, traditional weapons, and historical artifacts from the Sengoku period.

Visitors can reach the castle through hiking trails from Gifu Park or by taking the Mount Kinka Ropeway, which operates daily from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

The current concrete structure, built in 1956, incorporates architectural elements from the original fortress while maintaining its strategic position at 329 meters above sea level.
