Tama-Plaza Station, Underground railway station in Aoba-ku, Yokohama, Japan
Tama-Plaza is an underground railway station on the Tōkyū Den-en-toshi Line in Aoba-ku, Yokohama, with two side platforms serving trains between Shibuya in Tokyo and Chūō-rinkan in Kanagawa Prefecture. The facility connects regional transport with an overhead department store and several bus lines departing from an adjacent terminal.
The station opened on April 1, 1966, as part of the expansion of commuter links between Tokyo and suburban areas in Kanagawa Prefecture. A major renovation took place in 2006, led by the American firm Laguarda.Low Architects, which renewed surfaces and lighting throughout the facility.
The station supports daily commuter patterns of Yokohama residents while integrating transportation needs through its connection to local bus terminals and commercial areas.
Platforms are marked with signs indicating connections to Nagatsuta, Chūō-rinkan, Futako-tamagawa, Shibuya, and Oshiage, making it easy for travelers to find the correct direction. Access to the department store and local educational institutions is available directly from the station concourse, simplifying transfers between different destinations.
The station offers direct access to Kokugakuin University Tamaplaza Campus and Kanagawa Prefectural Motoishikawa High School, allowing students to reach their educational institutions without changing modes of transport. The Tokyu Department Store above is architecturally integrated into the station building, forming a single complex for transit, retail, and education.
