Kōnan Airport, airport
Kōnan Airport is a small aerodrome in Okayama, Japan, operating primarily for private and business aviation. The runway spans approximately 1,200 meters (3,900 feet), allowing only smaller aircraft such as private jets and helicopters to land.
The airport opened in 1962 as Okayama Airport, initially serving scheduled flights to cities like Tokyo using smaller aircraft. After a larger airport opened nearby in 1988, Kōnan shifted its focus to private aviation and general aviation activities.
The airport sits on flat terrain with a simple layout and is located about 8 kilometers from Okayama Station. Regular buses connect the city center to the airport, providing convenient access for travelers.
In 2015, a small business jet overshot the runway and landed in a nearby lake, a rare incident at this quiet airport. Both pilots landed safely, highlighting how uncommon accidents are at this modest facility.
