Tokai

Tokai sits on the Hitachi Plateau along the Pacific coast in Ibaraki Prefecture, north of Tokyo. This village covers roughly 38 square kilometers of coastal terrain.

Two existing settlements merged to form a single administrative unit in 1955. The following years brought the arrival of research facilities that shaped the settlement's character.

Tokai contributes to global scientific advancement through the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex, which conducts advanced materials and life sciences investigations.

Railway connections run through the area via the Joban Line, and highway access links the village to nearby cities. Schools serve local families and are distributed across the settlement.

A specialized center operates facilities for monitoring nuclear activities worldwide. The facility analyzes environmental samples collected from different regions.
