Ibaraki Botanical Garden, Botanical garden in Naka, Japan.
The Ibaraki Botanical Garden is a botanical garden in Naka with four separate sections: a rose garden, maple garden, peony garden, and tropical house. Together these areas contain more than 50,000 plants from around the world.
The garden opened in 1981 as a dedicated space for plant research and conservation in the Ibaraki region. This founding launched a local effort to systematically preserve plant species and their habitats.
The garden maintains collections of native Japanese plants alongside international species, reflecting both local and global botanical diversity through its exhibitions.
The garden is easiest to reach by bus from JR Mito Station or by car via the Joban Expressway. The paths are well-marked and there is plenty of room for walking and getting your bearings.
The garden houses around 240 tropical plant varieties that would not normally survive in this climate, showing the breadth of the collection. At the same time, the grounds provide habitat for about 70 bird species that add life to your visit.
