Yoshida-Kōriyama Castle, Mountain fortress in Akitakata, Japan
The castle spans across an entire mountain with a height of 390 meters and contains more than 270 distinct terraced areas connected by stone walls.
Built in 1336 by the Mori clan, this fortress served as their primary stronghold until they relocated their base to Hiroshima Castle in 1591.
The castle grounds include several Buddhist temple ruins and the graves of multiple generations of the Mori clan at the Toshunji Temple site.
Visitors can reach the castle by taking a bus from Hiroshima Bus Center to Akitakata City Hall, followed by a 5-minute walk to the mountain base.
The fortress successfully withstood a siege by 20,000 Amako clan soldiers, demonstrating the effectiveness of its defensive mountain position.
