Mitsujo Kofun, Ancient burial site in Higashihiroshima, Japan.

Mitsujo Kofun is a burial site consisting of three mounds arranged with a distinctive keyhole-shaped main structure in Higashihiroshima. The principal mound spans a considerable length and height, and the entire complex functions as a public historical park.

This burial complex was constructed in the early 5th century and served as the final resting place for regional leaders. Its construction demonstrates the engineering capabilities and the status held by these elites during that period.

The site takes its name from the distinctive clay objects discovered during excavations at this location. These items reflect the burial practices and beliefs about the afterlife held by the ancient community.

The location is easily accessible by car and sits within convenient distance from major transport hubs. Visitors will find well-maintained pathways and informational signage throughout the site to aid navigation and understanding.

Excavations revealed underground burial chambers within the mound that held stone containers and ancient metal objects including mirrors and weapons. These discoveries provide rare insights into the craftsmanship and long-distance trade networks of the era.
