Toshimaen Station, Railway and metro station in Nerima, Tokyo, Japan.
Toshimaen Station is a railway and metro stop in the Nerima district of Tokyo, served by two separate operators: Seibu Railway and Toei Subway. The two systems occupy different platforms connected by internal walkways within the same building complex.
The station opened in 1927 under the name Toshima Station and was renamed in 1933 as the nearby amusement park grew in importance. After the park closed in 2020, the surrounding land was redeveloped for a new purpose.
The station sits next to Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo, which opened in 2023 on the grounds of a former amusement park. Many visitors arriving here today are heading to the film studio attraction, giving the area a very different feel from its old role as a fairground entrance.
Because two separate companies operate here, it is worth knowing which network you need before passing through the fare gates. Signage is clear, but if you need to switch between the Seibu and Toei sides, allow a little extra time for the transfer.
Each of the two operators has assigned the station its own code: SI39 for Seibu Railway and E36 for Toei Subway. Although both codes refer to the same physical place, the two networks function entirely independently of each other.
