Motohasunuma Station, metro station in Itabashi, Tokyo, Japan
Motohasunuma Station is an underground metro station in Hasunumachō, Tokyo, sitting on the Toei Mita Line and labeled I-20. It has two side platforms flanking one set of tracks, with escalators, elevators, and stairs connecting the platform level to the street exits above.
The station opened in the late 1960s, during a period when Tokyo was building out its metro network to connect growing residential areas to the city center. Over the decades it has been updated several times to meet current standards.
The station's name reflects the area's old identity, as Hasunuma means something close to "lotus pond" in Japanese. The name is a reminder of what this part of Tokyo looked like long before the subway was built.
The station is easy to get around, with clear bilingual signs and level access from the street via elevators and escalators. Arriving outside the morning and evening rush periods makes moving through the platforms and exits more comfortable.
The Toei Mita Line is one of the older metro lines in Tokyo but it passes through some of the quieter residential parts of the city that few tourists ever see. This makes the station a good starting point for anyone curious about everyday Tokyo beyond the tourist trail.
