Karatsu Castle, Japanese castle in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, Japan
The five-tiered castle structure rises from stone foundations directly adjacent to Karatsu Bay, featuring multiple baileys and defensive positions around Mount Manto.
Terasawa Hirotaka initiated the castle construction in 1602 using materials from Nagoya Castle, completing the fortification in 1608 as a 123,000 koku domain.
The castle museum displays artifacts from the samurai period, including traditional armor, weapons, and pottery collections from the Karatsu domain.
Visitors can access the castle through a five-minute taxi ride from Karatsu Station or take a twenty-minute walk through the surrounding park.
The stone foundations of the castle emerge from the water of Karatsu Bay, incorporating the ocean as a natural defensive moat system.
