Asahi, Town in Shimoniikawa district, Toyama Prefecture, Japan

Asahi is situated at the eastern edge of Toyama Prefecture, positioned between the Japan Sea coast and the Northern Alps mountain range. The town blends coastal and alpine geography, creating a varied landscape that shapes how residents live and work.

The town was formed in 1954 through the merger of seven municipalities including Tomare, Okasho, Gokasho, Sakai, Nampo, Miyazaki, and Yamazaki. This administrative consolidation brought together separate communities into one unified settlement.

The October festival celebrates local seafood traditions through a regional fish soup made with ingredients sourced from the area. This event reflects how the sea shapes daily life and community gatherings.

Bus and train connections link the town to larger cities in the prefecture, making travel straightforward. Lodging options range from traditional inns to modern hotels, offering choices for different preferences.

The Jade Coast ranks among Japan's most beautiful beaches and features raw jade stones mixed into the sand. Summer swimming here combines recreation with the chance to spot these rare stones scattered along the shore.
