Mount Hachi, Mountain summit in Itoigawa and Asahi, Japan

Mount Hachi (鉢ヶ岳) is a 2,563 m summit on the main ridge of the Ushirotateyama range of the Hida Mountains, on the border of Toyama and Niigata prefectures. The through-hiking trail linking Mount Asahi, Mount Yukikura and Shirouma-dake skirts the mountain on its eastern slope, where large colonies of shinano-kinbai and hakusan-ichige grow.

Mount Hachi lies on the main ridge of the Ushirotateyama range of the Hida Mountains, on the border between Toyama and Niigata prefectures. The through-hiking trail linking Mount Asahi and Mount Yukikura with Mount Shirouma bypasses the summit along the eastern slope, where large colonies of Shinano kinbai and Hakusan ichige grow. The mountain is also reached from Renge Onsen via a mining road, and from Mount Shirouma or Mount Ko-Renge via the Mikuni Pass.

The mountain's name, Hachigatake, refers to a bowl (hachi) and is written with the character for peak. The summit stands on the main ridge of the Ushirotateyama range, but the through-trail linking Asahidake, Yukikuradake and Shiroumadake bypasses the top along the eastern slope. That eastern slope holds large colonies of shinano-kinbai and hakusan-ichige. Hikers reach the top from Renge Onsen via the mine path, or from Asahidake, Yukikuradake, Koyukiyama and Shiroumadake.
