North Pyongan

North Pyongan is an administrative division in northwestern North Korea that stretches along the Yalu River and features diverse landscapes including mountains, fertile valleys, and coastal zones. The region contains several cities and towns, with Sinuiju serving as the provincial capital and main urban center.

The province was established in 1896 when the northern section of the original Pyongan Province was separated into its own region. After 1945, it maintained its role as an important administrative area within the newly formed Korean state.

Residents of North Pyongan Province maintain traditional Korean music, dance, and craft practices through regular local festivals throughout the calendar year.

Access to the province is mainly through road and rail networks that connect Sinuiju to other regions. Most travel occurs along established transportation routes that serve both administrative and economic connections across the area.

The region holds significant mineral deposits including iron ore and coal, with extraction operations located at multiple sites throughout the area. These natural resources play an important role in the local economy and industrial activity.
