Mansu Hill Grand Monument, Bronze monument at Mansu Hill, Pyongyang, North Korea.
The Mansu Hill monument features two 20-meter tall bronze statues of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il standing at the center, surrounded by an additional 229 bronze figures. These supporting figures extend outward on both sides, creating a large sculptural composition positioned on the hillside.
The monument was completed in April 1972 to commemorate Kim Il-sung's 60th birthday, with a statue of Kim Jong-il added later in 2011. This second phase extended the original sculptural ensemble.
Visitors and locals leave flower baskets at the monument's base while performing synchronized bows as part of North Korean custom.
The site sits on a hillside and requires visitors to follow designated pathways and observe specific guidelines throughout their stay. Bring a camera to capture the sculptures from various positions, and check weather conditions before planning your visit.
Behind the main statues stands a mosaic wall depicting Mount Paektu, creating a backdrop that grounds the composition in landscape. This decorative wall forms an integral part of the entire sculptural arrangement.
