Yeongnyeongneung

Yeongnyeongneung is a royal burial complex in Gyeonggi Province where stone guardian figures watch over the grounds and traditional Korean architecture blends into the mountainous natural setting. The site features symmetrical pathways that wind through planted areas, connecting different tomb structures within the overall layout.

The complex was built during the Joseon Dynasty and forms part of a collection of 40 royal tombs scattered across 18 locations. It represents a significant example of dynastic burial practices and the architectural standards that defined that era.

The burial ground continues to serve as a ceremonial place where visitors can observe traditional practices of honoring ancestors through rituals rooted in Confucian beliefs.

The grounds are easily traversable on foot with informative signage guiding visitors through different sections. Wearing comfortable shoes is advisable since the terrain is hilly and involves walking along several pathways.

The site earned UNESCO World Heritage status due to its exceptional preservation of the royal burial system. This recognition honors its importance as a masterwork of Korean tomb design and landscape planning.
