Yakhyeon Catholic Church

Yakhyeon Catholic Church is a place of worship with Gothic architectural features and a cross-shaped layout in Seoul. The structure has arched windows set into its walls and spans roughly 12 meters wide by 32 meters long.

The church was founded in 1892 and stands as the first Western-style church building in Korea. It emerged at a time when Korea gained religious freedom and saw growth in its Catholic population.

The church serves as a major venue for Catholic weddings in Seoul, drawing couples from across the city. Regular worship brings the community together here for celebrations and shared spiritual moments.

The name comes from Yakjeonhyeon, referring to a hill where medicinal herbs once grew abundantly in earlier times. This historic name preserves memory of the site's former natural landscape.
