Donuimun Museum Village, History museum in Sajik-dong, South Korea.
Donuimun Museum Village is an outdoor museum with preserved houses and buildings from Seoul showing different building styles from the early 1900s through the 1980s. The collection includes about forty structures brought here or rebuilt from their original locations to recreate an entire neighborhood.
The site was once home to Donuimun Gate, one of Seoul's main entrances built in 1396. The gate was demolished during Japanese occupation to make room for street expansion.
The village shows houses from different periods that reflect how people in Seoul lived and arranged their daily spaces. You can see shops, homes, and workshops that reveal the everyday patterns and styles of the neighborhood.
The museum can be reached on foot and is near bus stops and subway stations in the area. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since the paths through the village are uneven and there are some slopes.
At one end of the museum, visitors can see an excavated wall from Gyeonghuigung Palace viewed from an elevated viewing deck. This ruin displays architectural details from a different time period than most of the other houses.
