Biryong Falls

Biryong Falls, Waterfall in Seoraksan National Park, South Korea

Biryong Falls is a 50-meter waterfall in Seoraksan National Park that cascades down granite cliffs, dividing into multiple water streams along its descent. The water converges into clear pools at different levels throughout the fall.

The waterfall received protection from park authorities in the 1970s when designated trails and viewing platforms were established around it. This marked its formal recognition as a protected natural site within the park.

The name means Flying Dragon, taken from local legends that compare the sound of falling water to dragons ascending the mountainside.

Visitors reach the site through a roughly 5-kilometer hiking trail from the visitor center, which features stone steps and a suspension bridge. Several observation platforms provide safe vantage points along the route.

During winter months, the entire waterfall freezes into vertical ice columns, attracting photographers from across the region. These frozen formations completely transform the appearance of the location into an entirely different landscape.
