Uygur District, Administrative district in Almaty Region, Kazakhstan

The district extends across 8,700 square kilometers between the Ketmen ridge and Ili depression in southeastern Kazakhstan, near the Chinese border.

Following its establishment in 1934, the district became a central administrative zone for managing regional resources and supporting local communities.

The population of 62,316 residents includes a majority of Uyghur people at 57 percent, alongside 40.6 percent of Kazakh inhabitants.

The district capital Chundzha connects residents to essential services through a network of roads linking different settlements across the territory.

The territory contains a protected Sogdian ash grove housing 34 Red Book plant species and thermal springs with low-mineralized radon water.
