Bolikhamsai Province

Bolikhamsai is a province in central Laos positioned between the Nam Xan and Mekong rivers. The region features dense forests and extensive protected areas including Nakai-Nam Theun National Park, which covers a vast expanse of natural landscapes.

The province took its current form during the late colonial period when French and Siamese powers shaped the region. This era brought significant changes to local populations and how the land was divided.

The Nam Kading River sustains fishing communities throughout the province, with locals practicing traditional methods passed down through generations. Daily life here revolves around the rhythm of the water and the seasons.

Route 13 is the main highway cutting through the province and connects Paksan with other towns. Most visitors find this region less crowded than other parts of Laos, making it easier to move around at your own pace.

The Nam Theun 2 Dam is the country's largest power facility and significantly influences the region's economic development. Few visitors realize that this project fundamentally altered local waterways and affected riverside communities in lasting ways.
