Berkane

Berkane is an urban center in northeastern Morocco situated on fertile plains north of the Beni-Snassen mountains, with the Mediterranean and Moulouya River nearby. The city sprawls across agricultural land known especially for citrus farming.

The city grew dramatically due to agricultural expansion, transforming from a small settlement into a sizable town over the course of the 20th century. This development was driven primarily by the growth of citrus cultivation across the region.

Residents speak an eastern Moroccan Arabic dialect in daily conversation, though many families also use Berber languages at home. This linguistic diversity reflects the different communities that make up the city.
