Ifrane National Park, National park in Ifrane Province, Morocco.
Ifrane National Park is a protected area spanning the Middle Atlas Mountains with extensive cedar forests, several lakes, and varied mountainous terrain. The landscape shifts from dense woodland at lower elevations to more open rocky terrain higher up in the protected zone.
Morocco created this protected area in 2004 to safeguard local ecosystems and expanded its boundaries four years later to include additional wetlands and high-altitude forests. This expansion significantly increased the land under conservation.
Berber communities in the region practice traditional crafts and maintain local markets where they sell forest products and herbal remedies gathered from surrounding areas. Visitors notice how daily life here remains connected to the natural rhythms of the mountains and seasons.
The park welcomes visitors year-round, though spring and autumn offer the most comfortable temperatures for hiking and wildlife watching. Multiple marked trails of varying difficulty levels allow you to explore different landscape types within the protected zone.
The park shelters a significant proportion of the world's remaining cedar forests, which are becoming increasingly rare globally, and provides crucial refuge for an endangered primate species. These macaques are the only naturally occurring primates in North Africa and represent a remarkable biological distinction.
