Ifrane National Park, National park in Ifrane Province, Morocco.
Ifrane National Park is a protected area in the Middle Atlas Mountains of Ifrane Province, Morocco. It covers dense cedar forests, several mountain lakes, and open rocky terrain at higher elevations.
Morocco established this protected area in 2004 to safeguard the ecosystems of the Middle Atlas. Its boundaries were later extended to include additional wetlands and high-altitude forests.
Berber communities near the park hold weekly markets in surrounding villages where forest plants and hand-gathered herbs are sold alongside everyday goods. These markets give visitors a direct sense of how local people stay connected to the land around them.
The park is open throughout the year, with spring and autumn generally offering more comfortable conditions for walking and wildlife watching. Marked trails of varying difficulty run through different parts of the protected area, so you can choose according to your pace.
The park is home to Barbary macaques, the only primate species that occurs naturally in North Africa and that also lives wild on the Rock of Gibraltar. These monkeys move freely through the cedar forests and can often be spotted along the hiking trails.
