Moulay Hassan Bridge, bridge in Morocco
Moulay Hassan Bridge is a bridge in Rabat and Salé that crosses the Bouregreg River, connecting the two cities. The structure has multiple sections: one for a tram platform, pathways for walking and cycling, and lanes for cars and trucks.
The original Moulay Hassan Bridge was built in the mid-1950s and opened in 1957 following the end of the French protectorate. It was named after Crown Prince Moulay Hassan, with King Mohammed V attending the inauguration ceremony.
The bridge is easy to cross on foot, with broad pathways for pedestrians on both sides and dedicated cycling lanes. During peak traffic times in early morning and evening it can become crowded, so a quieter moment is better for walking.
The current bridge was designed by renowned French engineer Marc Mimram and awarded for its quality in 2013. The design was specifically conceived as a complement to the nearby 12th-century Hassan II Tower, harmonizing subtly with this historical landmark.
