Stade de Marrakech, football stadium in Morocco
The Grand Stade de Marrakech is a large football stadium located about 11 kilometers north of the city center. It holds approximately 45,000 spectators and features a natural grass playing field, a 400-meter running track, additional training grounds, and facilities including media rooms, medical clinics, and parking for about 7,000 vehicles.
Construction began in 2003 and was completed in 2011, with the opening ceremony featuring international matches between local and French teams. Since then, it has become a major venue for national and international tournaments, including hosting the FIFA Club World Cup in 2013 and 2014.
The stadium incorporates traditional Moroccan architectural elements inspired by the medina, blending them with modern design. On match days, the space fills with chants and team colors, showing how central this venue is to local sports life.
The stadium sits along a main road and is easily accessible by car or taxi, with ample parking available. Plan to eat at the venue or in the city center, as few shops and restaurants operate in the immediate surroundings.
The stadium was designed by Moroccan architect Sâd Benkirane and Italian firm Gregotti Associati International, blending traditional and modern elements. Local sports fans, however, have noted that viewing can be challenging since seats are positioned far from the playing field.
