Menara gardens, Public garden and orchard in Marrakesh, Morocco.
The gardens extend over 100 hectares at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, containing olive groves and a central rectangular water basin measuring 195 meters long.
Created in 1157 by Almohad Caliphate ruler Abd al-Mu'min, these gardens functioned as an agricultural estate with an advanced irrigation system using underground water channels.
The nineteenth-century stone pavilion near the water basin demonstrates the architectural preferences of the Alaouite dynasty through its pyramidal green-tiled roof design.
The gardens remain open to visitors throughout the year without entrance fees, offering spaces for walks and picnics among olive trees and cypress groves.
The rectangular water reservoir, spanning 160 meters in width, functions both as an irrigation source and a mirror reflecting the Atlas Mountains in the background.
