Rick's Café Casablanca, Film-inspired restaurant in Casablanca, Morocco
Rick's Café Casablanca occupies a grand Moroccan mansion built in 1930 featuring three distinct facades with curved arches and traditional balconies. The interior contains sculpted bars, detailed zellige tiles, and carved marble elements that reflect traditional Moroccan design.
A former American diplomat named Kathy Kriger founded the restaurant in 2004 to bring the fictional bar from the 1942 film Casablanca to life. The project transformed a historical building into a gathering place centered on film culture.
The space showcases Moroccan craftsmanship through detailed zellige tiles, carved marble fireplaces, and hand-finished walls. Musicians perform songs from the 1940s and 1950s, creating a connection to the era that inspired the restaurant.
The restaurant serves lunch from noon to 3 PM and dinner from 6:30 PM to 1 AM, with live piano music from Tuesday through Sunday. It becomes busier on weekends, so booking ahead is advisable for a more relaxed visit.
A 1930s Pleyel piano sits in the restaurant where musicians perform As Time Goes By and other songs from the film era. The instrument was selected to match the historical period of the original movie.
